Safadi calls on Blinken to pressure Israel to stop ethnic cleansing in Gaza

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi called on his US counterpart, Anthony Blinken, to pressure Israel to stop "ethnic cleansing" in the northern Gaza Strip, during their meeting in London on Friday.

Commenting on the Israeli military operation in northern Gaza and the deteriorating humanitarian situation, Safadi said, "We see ethnic cleansing taking place, and this must stop."

In turn, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that there is a real urgent need to reach a diplomatic solution to end the Israeli war in Lebanon, calling for the protection of civilians.

"We have a sense of real urgency for a diplomatic solution and full implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701, so that there can be real security on the border between Israel and Lebanon," Blinken said, referring to the resolution that was implemented after the previous war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006.

"At the same time, we want to stress that we want to see civilians protected, we want to make sure that the Lebanese Armed Forces are not in the crossfire," he added.

Blinken is visiting Britain to meet Arab officials, after a tour of the Middle East earlier in the week, his first to the region since the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Yahya Sinwar in a confrontation with the Israeli occupation.

Continuous penetration

According to a medical source, the number of martyrs has reached 820 as a result of the ongoing Israeli military operation in Jabalia and the northern Gaza Strip for 20 days.

The Israeli incursion and bombardment of various areas in the North Gaza Governorate continues, while the army continues its efforts to empty the area of its residents through forced evacuation and displacement.

Factions in Lebanon, including Hezbollah, began clashes with Israel after the Israeli occupation launched a genocide on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023. Then, since September 23, Tel Aviv expanded the scope of the genocide to include most of Lebanon’s regions - including the capital Beirut - through air strikes, and began a ground invasion in its south.

The aggression on Lebanon resulted in the deaths of 2,593 people and the injury of 12,119, including a large number of women and children, in addition to more than 1.4 million displaced persons. Most of the victims and displaced persons were recorded after September 23, according to Anadolu Agency’s monitoring of official Lebanese data announced until Thursday evening.
