Lazzarini: The destruction in the Gaza Strip is unprecedented and the dismantling of UNRWA has become a goal for Israel
The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, confirmed that the destruction in the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli war is "unprecedented", and that the destruction of UNRWA has become one of the goals of the war.
"There is a growing feeling that international law is being applied selectively, especially with what is happening in Gaza," Lazzarini said at a press conference in Berlin on Wednesday.
"About 70% of the infrastructure in the Gaza Strip has been destroyed," he added, "and the situation in Gaza is horrific for professional relief workers, and the scale of the destruction is unprecedented."
He added that "the majority of the population of the Gaza Strip is crowded into an area that does not exceed 10% of the entire area of the Strip," and "about 400,000 people are stuck in the northern Gaza Strip."
He stressed that "Israel does not allow international media to go to Gaza, and the information coming from there is limited."
Lazraini attacked Israel, saying that "dismantling UNRWA has become a goal of the war... and that "Israeli legislators are working to pass laws to dismantle UNRWA."
