Mikati: We submitted a request to the Security Council to issue a ceasefire resolution
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati confirmed that a request has been submitted to the UN Security Council to issue a resolution to cease fire in Lebanon.
After a government session, he indicated that he had discussed by phone with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken the necessity of a ceasefire in Lebanon, noting that Lebanon is committed to implementing UN Resolution 1701.
He stressed the need to elect a president for the Lebanese Republic as soon as possible.
Mikati condemned the Israeli attack on UNIFIL forces, and revealed that about 595 schools are receiving displaced persons in various Lebanese regions.
He said: "A ceasefire is necessary and the Lebanese army must prove its role in enhancing security on the southern border."
