UNICEF launches urgent appeal to raise $105 million to help Lebanon's children
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has launched an urgent appeal to raise $105 million over the next three months to help children and families in Lebanon.
UNICEF said in a statement on Tuesday that "the dangerous escalation of the conflict in Lebanon has led to the deterioration of children's conditions and needs, faster than the ability of humanitarian agencies to respond immediately with life-saving interventions."
She stressed that needs are increasing at a tremendous pace in Lebanon, calling on the international community to urgently increase humanitarian support and ensure that roads remain open in Lebanon to deliver humanitarian aid, allowing the necessary supplies to be delivered quickly and safely to the children most in need.
UNICEF Representative in Lebanon, Edouard Beigbeder, said that the consequences of the escalation of hostilities are catastrophic for all children in Lebanon, and that countless children are in real danger, exposed to ongoing attacks and forced displacement, and unable to rely on the exhausted health care system.
