The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, strongly condemned the Israeli attack on the tents of displaced civilians in the "safe" Al-Mawasi area in Khan Yunis.

Borrell said via his account on the X platform on Tuesday: "I strongly condemn the Israeli attack on refugee tents in the safe zone in Khan Yunis."

He stressed the need to respect the rules of war, protect civilians and ensure accountability, adding: "We cannot normalize the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza."

He said that the Israeli attack on refugee tents in the Mawasi area resulted in the deaths of at least 40 people.

The Israeli army's bombing, at dawn on Tuesday, of the tents of displaced people in the Al-Mawasi area, which is classified as "safe," resulted in the killing of 40 Palestinians, the injury of 60 others, and dozens of missing persons, according to a preliminary toll reported by the government media office in Gaza.
