The international silence regarding the war of extermination waged by the Israeli occupation state against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip reveals the reality of American hegemony, which renders the world unable to take any effective steps to stop it or implement international laws on Israeli criminals.
In separate interviews with “I,” writers, political analysts, and university professors of political science said that pro-Israel lobbies play a major role in silencing any criticism and influence politics and media in the West, noting that Palestinian steadfastness and adherence to demands may force the world to change its position.
The writers and analysts stressed the importance of popular pressure and civil society action in countries around the world in pushing the governments of those countries to assume their responsibilities, including imposing sanctions on Israel.
They pointed out that the Palestinian issue has returned to the forefront thanks to the scenes of genocide in Gaza and what citizens are being subjected to in terms of killing, displacement, starvation, and destruction of their infrastructure, homes, institutions, and much more, which may ultimately lead to a popular movement that changes the political equations.

The defeat of Israel is the defeat of colonialism

The writer and political analyst Dr. Ahmed Rafiq Awad said that the Zionist biblical project is the most advanced and entrenched in the region, widely supported by the colonial West, as this project is advancing in an aggressive and violent manner, imposing its conditions on the region, especially after a year of the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.
Awad pointed out that the international silence on Israeli crimes has several fundamental reasons, the most important of which is that the colonial West sees the occupation state remaining a dominant force, and that its defeat would mean a defeat for the colonial ideology itself, which makes it unwilling to accept any defeat for Israel. There are also religious reasons that support this silence, as there is a theological thought that says “Christianity is not complete without the completion of Judaism.”
According to Awad, there are Western visions in Europe and America that support the establishment of the State of Israel and the construction of the Temple, because this is a prelude to the coming of Christ and the fulfillment of the prophecies of the Gospel, which means that support for Israel is not only for colonial reasons, but also for cultural and religious reasons.
Awad pointed out that the pro-Israel lobbies play a major role in silencing any criticism of it, especially in Europe and America.

Controlling the media to silence dissenting voices

According to Awad, these lobbies work to strengthen support for Israel by controlling the media, which silences any opposing voice and highlights the pro-Israel voices. Politics in the West is governed by money and fame, and universities and research centers tend to support Israel, while financial institutions work to destroy anyone who dares to criticize them. In addition, there are economic interests linked to arms companies that benefit from the conflict in the region and use Israel as a means to market their products by testing them on the Palestinians.
Awad stressed that this international silence has a high price, pointing out that even members of the US Congress do not dare to criticize Israel for fear of losing their financial and political support, which reflects the influence of lobbies on Western democracies, where support and donations are bought.

The silence of the Arab and Islamic regimes and their defeat

Awad explained that the silence of the Arab and Islamic regimes, their defeat, and their failure to stand and support the Palestinians, also feeds the global silence.
Awad believes that turning to the West to inform it of Palestinian rights is important, but it is not the basis. Rather, what is more important is steadfastness and adherence to demands, and making sacrifices for the sake of the Palestinian cause.
Awad stressed that when the world sees this steadfastness, it will be forced to change its position, especially if its interests are harmed, stressing that asking for pity from enemies is not useful, and that the hostility between the Arabs and the colonial West will remain because of what he believes are deep cultural differences.

Statements of denunciation.. formal measures to remove embarrassment

In turn, writer and political analyst Nour Odeh said: The main problem is not the silence of the international community towards the Israeli war of extermination against the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip, but rather the absence of political will to stop this aggression.
Awda pointed out that the international statements that are sometimes issued to condemn or express concern about the crimes committed are nothing more than a formal measure used to relieve the embarrassment of those countries, while the Israeli crimes continue without any accountability or actual deterrence.
Awda believes that what is required is to activate the role of civil society, in addition to political and popular pressures, to push governments to assume their responsibilities under international law.
According to Awda, this includes imposing sanctions on Israel, stopping arms exports to it, and prosecuting those responsible for crimes, especially those who hold dual nationalities.
Awda stressed that "Israel will not stop its criminal practices unless the continuation of these crimes becomes costly for it at all levels, which requires serious international action that goes beyond mere statements to actual and effective measures."

American hegemony and the logic of interests

For his part, Dr. Raed Abu Badawiyya, Professor of International Law and International Relations at the Arab American University, explained that the international community suffers from a clear inability to deal with what is happening in the Palestinian territories, despite the issuance of press statements and UN resolutions, including those issued by international courts.
Abu Badawiya believes that “despite the international positions rejecting the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation, there is a state of international helplessness in the face of these crimes, and the reason for this is due to the continued American hegemony and support for Israel, as everyone realizes that their most important interests are linked to the United States, and no one can do anything effective against Israel.”
Abu Badawiya stressed that "the events witnessed in the Palestinian territories after October 7 revealed the weakness and inability of the international community in the face of the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation."

Serious implications for the stability of the Middle East and the world

He pointed out that the international silence regarding these events carries serious repercussions on the stability of the Middle East region and the entire world, explaining that this silence has led to the escalation of resistance activities in the Palestinian territories, and has put the Middle East region on the brink of collapse, noting that the current situation has created a state of division within the countries of the world, especially in Europe, where positions supporting the recognition of the State of Palestine have begun to appear, in addition to the divisions within the US administration and within the Democratic Party.
Regarding the impact of this deficit on international institutions, Abu Badawiya warned that this silence could lead to the marginalization of these institutions and the loss of confidence in them among the countries of the world.
Abu Badawiya stressed that the Palestinians, Arabs and all supporters of the Palestinian cause must move diplomatically, especially after the Palestinian narrative spread and was strengthened as a result of the ongoing war of extermination, calling for the formation of a real international bloc that seeks to take effective measures against Israel.

Arab embassies open in Tel Aviv

Writer and political analyst Imad Musa stressed that betting on the international community to resolve the crisis is a futile bet, pointing out that real pressure must come from within Palestine and the Arab world.
Moussa wondered about the role of Arab and Islamic countries, especially those that still maintain diplomatic relations with Israel, as their embassies remained open in Tel Aviv, despite the ongoing Israeli crimes. However, it is necessary to mobilize international support and demonstrations and pressure governments to take firm positions and measures against Netanyahu's government, in order to stop the war.
He believes that the Arab and Islamic world seems helpless in its official positions, but popular movement may force these governments to change.
Musa pointed out that the world today is not silent, but is moving slowly and gradually as a result of the complexities associated with democratic development in the West.
Moussa explained that "relying on public opinion or the international community to achieve immediate changes is an ineffective bet. Instead, the focus should be on unifying the Palestinian position and strengthening steadfastness and stability on the ground, as this type of unity and steadfastness may force the world to intervene immediately to stop the aggression."

Israel is a model military base for the West in the region

Referring to Western support for Israel, Moussa stressed that this support comes as a result of the West seeing Israel as a model military base in the region, which can play a decisive role in the confrontation between the West, Russia and China.
He stressed that the West had taken the most severe sanctions against Russia due to its war on Ukraine, including intensive financial, political and military support, and the historic expansion of NATO to confront common threats.
Moussa pointed out that any voice in Europe calling for an end to the aggression or supporting Gaza is subject to the maximum penalties, which highlights the extent of Western bias in favor of Israel.
Moussa stressed that what is required now is to achieve Palestinian national unity and support a popular uprising in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the 1948 territories, in parallel with a mass movement in the Arab world to express rejection of the genocide against the Palestinian people.
He pointed out that this simultaneous popular movement inside Palestine and the Arab countries will have a major impact on international positions, and may force the world to take actual measures to stop the Israeli aggression.

Official silence and increasing popular and student movements

For his part, writer and political analyst Firas Yaghi said: There is official silence regarding the war of extermination being waged against the Palestinians, but despite that, there are increasing popular and student movements in Europe, and the intensity of protests may increase in a number of American universities in the coming period.
Yaghi believed that these voices could rise more in support of the Palestinian cause, strongly criticizing the suspicious and unprecedented international silence towards the war of extermination, stressing that the United States plays a major role in this silence.
He explained that the United States' control over the international community enables it to protect Israel effectively, and gives it enough time to achieve its goals, regardless of the civilian casualties of women and children.
Yaghi pointed out that American history is full of bloody crimes, such as the killing of more than a million Iraqis and the destruction of Iraq and Afghanistan, and before that in Vietnam, noting that these acts are usually carried out without taking into account humanitarian issues, contrary to what is only talked about in the media.

Israel violates international law in the West Bank

Yaghi believes that what is happening in the West Bank is a violation of international law, pointing out that the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip is illegal, and therefore Israel has no right to claim the right to self-defense.
He explained that the United States and the countries orbiting around it, whether Arab or European, are responsible for this silence, as the European Union can take decisions to mobilize the international community, but the lack of consensus among its countries prevents that.
Yaghi called on the Palestinians to unite under the umbrella of the Palestine Liberation Organization in accordance with international legitimacy, and urged the Arab and Islamic world to exploit its capabilities to pressure the United States and Europe.
Yaghi stressed that without the action of these Arab countries and regimes, there will be no real international action, and the United States will not take any steps unless it feels that its interests in the region are threatened.
He pointed out that there is an unprecedented bet on the blood of the Palestinians and the tragedy of the Palestinian people, but the solution lies in implementing the resolutions of international legitimacy related to the two-state solution, even if this solution is rejected by Israel.
Yaghi called on the international community to take decisions that force Israel to withdraw from the occupied territories in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

The international community is divided into two parts.

Dr. Saad Nimr, Professor of Political Science at Birzeit University, said: The international community is divided into two parts, one part represented by the United States of America and the European countries, which is blatantly biased towards Israel, and another part represented by major powers such as China, Russia, India and Iran, which stands helpless in the face of American hegemony and the policies of European countries with a colonial mentality.
Nimr explained that "these countries that have practiced colonialism throughout history are still defending Israel, the colonial state, which represents the strategic interests of those countries, which makes them unwilling to take any serious steps against the genocide that Israel is practicing in Palestine."
“The international position will remain as it is, without a real reaction to what is happening, especially from countries with great influence, such as the United States, France and Britain, which have permanent seats on the Security Council,” he said, noting that Russia and China, which are also permanent members of the Security Council, are preoccupied with other issues. Russia is busy with its war with Ukraine, while China is following a different approach, moving away from military confrontations and leaning towards peaceful solutions, which explains the international silence towards the Israeli war of extermination in Palestine.”

Major Palestinian, Israeli and international changes after October 7

Nimr believes that the attack that took place on October 7 created major changes on several levels: internal Palestinian, Israeli, regional, and international.
However, Nimr believes that these changes will not be quick or direct, which explains the suspicious silence of the international community regarding what is happening in Palestine.
He pointed out that "the peoples of the world have begun to break the silence through demonstrations and popular movements, with expectations that universities and students will witness a new wave of protests after returning to school this September."
Nimer said: Despite these movements, they may not bring about immediate change, as there are two factors that contribute to bringing about change in the long term: the moral factor, which is embodied in the moral responsibility of the masses through demonstrations, and the legal factor, which is represented by international courts and legal institutions.
Nimr believes that “the world will change in the future in favor of Palestine, but this change requires time and effort, and will not be immediate or quick,” calling for the continuation of popular and international movements to achieve justice for the Palestinians.

Zionist lobbies and military and technological industries

In turn, writer and political analyst Adnan Al-Sabah said: The main reason behind the international silence regarding the Israeli crimes and genocide against the Palestinian people lies in the dominance of material interests over relations between peoples and countries, exceeding human values, ethics and principles.
Al-Sabah explained that the Palestinian people, being a small people, do not represent a major strategic or economic interest for the world, while the Zionist lobbies constitute an influential force in the world, as they control the most important military, technological and financial industries, which makes them the focus of global interests. As a result, the world turns a blind eye to the crimes of the occupation, and is satisfied with verbal condemnation without taking any actual measures to stop what is happening.
Al-Sabah pointed out that the international discourse on the current war of extermination focuses unbalancedly on the issue of Israeli detainees, completely ignoring the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Al-Sabah pointed out that these detainees have become the focus of international attention, surpassing in importance the overall bloody events taking place in Palestine.

Decline of common human values

Al-Sabah believed that the international silence was the result of the radical changes that had occurred in the world. There was no longer human, national or religious unity as there had been in the past, as the common values among people had declined and been replaced by individual and material interests.
He stressed that the world has become more isolated and disconnected from reality, influenced by technology and the virtual world, where current events can seem unreal to him, leading to a weakening of human feelings and real relationships.
Al-Sabah believes that “the solution to break this international silence lies in reviving the human spirit and human spirituality, and getting rid of material dominance over relations between peoples and countries.”

Heading for disaster

Al-Sabah stressed the need for a real collective human effort that forces the world to reconsider human values and restore human unity, otherwise humanity may head towards a certain disaster, as unity will be absent in confronting fateful issues.
In Al Sabah’s view, “the world is in dire need of a radical change in its vision and dealings, so that human values are revived as the basis of international relations. Otherwise, the current situation will continue to descend towards more division, indifference and detachment from reality, which will ultimately lead to the destruction of the basic human ties that can prevent greater disasters in the future.”

The importance of the Palestinian issue

Writer and political analyst Suleiman Basharat believes that the Palestinian issue is not merely a regional issue, but rather represents a driver for reviving public and popular awareness in the Arab and Islamic world.
Basharat stressed that "this revival may not be immediate, but rather begins with developing awareness that ultimately leads to a popular and mass movement that addresses fateful issues, most notably the Palestinian issue."
Basharat pointed out that the experience of the Arab and Islamic peoples with the Palestinian issue dates back to 1948, when popular positions were clear in rejecting the Israeli occupation, but despite that, these peoples were unable to liberate Palestine, despite the existence of many opportunities.
Basharat explained that “this deficit is due to several factors, including the connection between popular solidarity with the Palestinian cause and the cultural dimension of the Arab and Islamic peoples who prefer not to interfere in affairs outside their geographical borders. However, this cultural orientation does not mean a complete absence of solidarity, as throughout history there have been waves of support from the Arab and Islamic peoples for the Palestinian revolution, and these peoples were a source for extending Palestinian steadfastness in various ways.”

Weak support from Arab and Islamic peoples for Gaza

Basharat pointed out that “one of the main reasons for the lack of support by Arab and Islamic peoples for Gaza in the required manner recently is the negative impact that the major Arab countries were exposed to after the events of the “Arab Spring” in 2011. These events, which did not achieve the desired change, contributed to weakening popular interest in major issues, including the Palestinian cause. In addition, the Palestinian political division, which has been ongoing for 17 years, contributed to some Arab societies justifying their distancing from the Palestinian cause, and led to internal divisions over it.”
Basharat pointed to another very important factor that led to the decline in international support and silence towards Palestine, which is the dominance of the United States of America on the world stage.
According to Basharat, the United States has imposed its political agenda on Arab, regional and international political systems, which has forced these systems to remain within the borders set by Washington, which hinders any serious political action at the regional and international levels regarding what is happening in the Gaza Strip.
Basharat stressed that "if there had been a serious move, this move would have opened the way for popular and public presence, which could have had a significant impact on the situation in Gaza."

The Palestinian issue has returned to the forefront with force

Despite these challenges, Basharat believes that the Palestinian cause has returned to the forefront with force in the hearts of the world’s masses, pointing out that the scenes of genocide in the Gaza Strip contribute to igniting the awareness of the masses and Arab, Islamic and international societies.
He expressed his belief that "this growing awareness will lead at some point to a popular explosion that may change the political map and current systems, and affect the course of events worldwide."
Basharat stressed that what is required to awaken the world, its organizations and institutions is the steadfastness of the Palestinians in the face of the Israeli occupation and its practices. The more the Palestinian people show steadfastness and refusal to surrender, the more the model of Palestinian steadfastness will become a stimulus for the awareness of the masses, which may lead to a broad global popular movement.
Basharat stressed the "necessity of unifying the Palestinian national discourse, as he believes that the time has come to close the page of internal differences among the Palestinians, and to strive to unify the content, and to unify the Palestinian discourse that we present to the world."
Basharat believes that “unifying this discourse will be an incentive to strengthen the presence of the Palestinian cause on the international scene, and may lead to a change in international positions towards what is happening in Palestine.”
