Death of the great Palestinian leader Farouk Qaddoumi "Abu Al-Lutf"
The death of the great Palestinian leader Farouk Al-Qudami, known as "Abu Al-Lutf", was announced in the Jordanian capital today, Thursday, at the age of 93.
His family said that Abu al-Lutf, one of the founders of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement "Fatah", died after a long struggle with illness.
Al-Qudomi's death comes less than two months after the death of his wife, Nabila Al-Nimr, "Umm Al-Lutf."
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas mourned the great leader Farouk Qaddoumi, saying, “I mourn a brother, a friend, and a comrade in the struggle and tireless work for Palestine, which loses with his passing one of its loyal, faithful, struggling men who gave a lot to serve Palestine, its cause, and its people.”
Fatah also mourned Al-Qaddoumi, one of the historical leaders who founded the movement and the contemporary Palestinian revolution.
Fatah said, "With the passing of the fighter Abu al-Lutf, the movement has lost a great national figure and a fighter who spent his life defending our people, their national cause, and their legitimate rights to return, self-determination, freedom, and independence."
Who is Qudomi?
Farouk Qaddoumi was born in the village of Jinsafut in the Qalqilya Governorate in 1931.
He immigrated with his family to the city of Haifa in 1948 before returning again to Nablus.
He studied elementary school in Jinsafut and high school in Jaffa.
In 1954, he joined the American University in Cairo, where he completed his undergraduate studies in economics and political science.
Al-Qudomi held several positions in several Arab countries. After graduating from the American University, he worked in the Libyan Reconstruction Council, then in the Saudi Ministry of Oil, and then in the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health.
His political life
At the beginning of his political career, Al-Qaddoumi joined the Arab Socialist Baath Party in the 1940s.
-While studying in Egypt, he met Yasser Arafat (Abu Ammar) and Salah Khalaf (Abu Iyad), and they worked together to establish the Fatah movement in the late fifties, with the participation of Khalil al-Wazir (Abu Jihad) and Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen).
In 1969, the Fatah movement nominated him for membership in the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, and he became head of its political department in 1973.
In 1983, after the Israeli invasion of Lebanon, Qaddoumi left Beirut with the leaders of the Palestine Liberation Organization for Tunisia.
