Israeli media: Washington is pressuring Cairo to deploy Egyptian forces in Gaza
Israeli media reported that "the United States is putting heavy pressure on Cairo to deploy Egyptian forces in the Gaza Strip after the end of the war in the Strip."
A report by Israel's Channel 7 said that Cairo is not enthusiastic about the American initiative calling for the stationing of Egyptian soldiers in Gaza.
The Hebrew channel indicated that senior officials in the American administration recently visited Cairo and are putting pressure on the Egyptian government to deploy a military force in the Gaza Strip, as part of the agreement to end the war between Israel and Hamas.
An Egyptian official said, according to the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation "Kan 11", that in Cairo they are currently refusing to discuss the possibility of sending military forces to Gaza, and are demanding that a ceasefire be reached first and that there be an Israeli commitment to resolving the Palestinian issue.
According to him, this is the basis for starting to discuss the issue in detail.
In recent months, several Arab countries, led by Egypt, presented the Americans with a document of principles the day after the war, which also includes the possibility of deploying forces, but it was not confirmed that this would be conditional as part of the two-state solution - which includes the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
