Iran has rejected claims that it is "linked to plans to assassinate high-ranking US officials" including former US President Donald Trump.

Iran's permanent mission to the United Nations responded to the US Justice Department's claim on Tuesday that a Pakistani accused of plotting to assassinate senior US officials in the country has ties to Tehran, the official IRNA news agency reported on Wednesday.

"We have not received any report in this regard from the US government. However, it is clear that this method of carrying out assassinations is inconsistent with the Iranian government's policy of prosecuting the killer of the martyr (Qassem) Soleimani," the mission said in a statement.

The US Justice Department has charged a Pakistani with "ties" to the Iranian government with plotting to assassinate high-ranking US officials in the country.

Former US President Trump ordered the attack that killed Iranian Quds Force commander General Qassem Soleimani in 2020 in Iraq.

On July 13, Trump was shot in the ear during an armed attack on his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
