CNN: Shadows of doubt over Netanyahu's claim of 'destroying Hamas'
A report by the American CNN network confirmed the falsity of the claims of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the absolute victory and the destruction of Hamas.
The American network said that Netanyahu says that "victory" over Hamas is imminent, but the data tells a different story and casts doubt on that.
The report confirmed that Hamas returned nearly half of the military battalions to the north and center of the Gaza Strip, and built some of its combat capabilities.
The report noted that Benjamin Netanyahu, who is facing increasing international pressure to agree to a ceasefire and release detainees in Gaza, has repeatedly said that “Israeli forces are getting closer to their stated goal of eliminating Hamas and destroying its military capabilities.”
“Victory is in sight,” he said in his July 24 address to a joint session of Congress, but a forensic analysis of Hamas’s military operations since it launched attacks on Israel on October 7, based on Israeli and Hamas military statements, footage from the field and interviews with experts and eyewitnesses, casts doubt on his claims, CNN reported.
Hamas is trying to renew its ranks
The report stated that Israel dealt a heavy blow to Hamas, killing prominent figures in it, and the ongoing attack transformed what was previously a professional fighting force into a guerrilla army last week.
“Hamas’s political bureau chief, Ismail Haniyeh, was assassinated in Tehran in an attack that Iran blamed on Israel,” he added. “Israel did not claim responsibility for the attack, but said the next day that Hamas’s top military commander, Mohammed Deif, had been killed in an airstrike in Gaza on July 13, a claim Hamas has neither confirmed nor denied. Nevertheless, research covering Hamas’s activities through July shows that the group appears to have made effective use of dwindling resources on the ground. Several units returned to key areas cleared by the Israeli military after fierce battles, saving the remnants of their battalions in a desperate attempt to replenish their ranks.”
Netanyahu refuses to comment on the report
CNN said it asked Netanyahu to comment on the report, but the Israeli Prime Minister's Office did not respond.
