US, Australia, India, Japan: Committed to Palestinian State

The United States, Australia, India, Japan, in a quadrilateral statement on Monday, announced their commitment to a Palestinian state that "takes into account Israel's legitimate security concerns", within the framework of a two-state solution that achieves peace in the Middle East.

The four countries added in the statement that "actions that undermine the prospects for a two-state solution, such as Israeli settlement expansion and violent extremism on all sides, must stop."

Senior diplomats from Japan, the United States, Australia and India met in Tokyo on Monday to discuss security concerns and joint support for enhancing maritime safety and cybersecurity in the Indo-Pacific region amid growing tensions with China.

At the meeting, hosted by Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar are expected to share strong opposition to Beijing's growing boldness in the South China Sea.

China has raised tensions with many countries in the Asia-Pacific region with its claims to the South China Sea and its vital maritime trade routes. Beijing also says self-ruled Taiwan is part of its territory and could annex it by force if necessary.

The four ministers are expected to discuss cooperation on countering cyber attacks, tackling disinformation and ensuring maritime security in what are known as the Quad talks, and are looking to support other countries in the region to build their capabilities in those areas.
