Carrying important files...an Israeli security delegation will arrive in Cairo tomorrow
Israel informed Cairo on Tuesday that a security delegation will arrive tomorrow evening, Wednesday, to discuss some points of the truce deal with the Egyptian side.
Tel Aviv informed Cairo that the response was positive regarding the Rafah crossing and the Philadelphia axis.
According to Al-Ghad's correspondent, an Egyptian security delegation will head to Doha on Thursday to participate in meetings regarding a temporary truce agreement for a period of 6 weeks.
In turn, Dr. Sufyan Abu Zaida, the former Palestinian minister, commented on the Israeli delegation’s visit to Egypt by saying: “The Israeli delegation will not have broad tasks nor broad powers, and the conversation with the Egyptian side will be limited to a specific topic, which is the Rafah crossing and the Philadelphia axis.”
He added, in an interview with Al-Ghad TV: “The Israeli delegation will not talk about the recommendations or decisions of the cabinet meeting that lasted 6 hours before Netanyahu traveled to Washington, and therefore the matter is postponed until Netanyahu returns on Thursday.”
He continued: “After Netanyahu’s return, the Israeli delegation can travel to Doha to hand over to the mediators in Egypt, Qatar, and America the new framework that was agreed upon in the cabinet, related to two basic points, the first being the Philadelphia axis and the Rafah crossing, and the second related to the Netzarim axis and the return of the displaced to northern Gaza without restrictions.”
France calls for a ceasefire
France reaffirmed the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and renewed its opposition to Israeli operations in Khan Yunis and Rafah.
France called on Israel to implement all necessary measures to allow the entry of large numbers of humanitarian aid, in order to meet the enormous needs of the Palestinian population.
American pressure
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met with prominent Israeli officials and discussed the ongoing talks to reach a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
During the meeting, the Israeli National Security Advisor, Tzachi Hanegbi, and the Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs, Ron Dermer, confirmed that Israel remains committed to reaching a ceasefire agreement under the conditions set by President Joe Biden on May 31.
The Times of Israel newspaper had published the full text of the Israeli proposal to release detainees and ceasefire with Hamas, which was presented on May 27, 2024, and the newspaper obtained it on July 13, 2024.
