He addressed Congress on the 24th of this month to showcase his heroism and obtain support ///
Antoine Shalhat: The Knesset recess gives Netanyahu an opportunity to evade crises and opposition pressures
Dr.. Raed Nairat: Netanyahu does not want to complete any deal before the US presidential elections
Sri Samour: Netanyahu rebelled against the army after October 7 and is trying to overthrow the Israeli political system
Nihad Abu Ghosh: Entering the Knesset recess means extending the war for 3 months without a vote of confidence
In the next few days, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will head to the United States to deliver a speech before the US Congress on July 24, without officially revealing the broad outlines of his upcoming speech. However, he is expected to seek to gain the support of American lawmakers by presenting His heroism in his ongoing criminal war on the Gaza Strip, and the repetition of “the cycle of fighting evil forces and preserving values.”
Netanyahu will leave in a position that can be described as “comfortable,” despite the pressure and intense multipolar opposition he faces within Israeli society and the military establishment, as he succeeded in stalling the issue of the exchange deal until the start of the Knesset’s summer recess approached, which will guarantee him an extension. His brutal war on the Gaza Strip for three months without fear of a “no confidence,” which means buying time by shedding more Palestinian blood, which will ensure that he prolongs his stay in power without worry.
Writers, political analysts, and specialists in Israeli affairs believe, in separate conversations with Al-Quds.com, that Netanyahu is trying to obstruct the conclusion of the deal proposed by US President Joe Biden, by adding new conditions aimed at sabotaging reaching an agreement, which coincides with his visit to the United States. United States, and deliver a speech before Congress, where he will seek to recruit more American support to achieve his goals in the war, while Netanyahu hopes that Donald Trump will return to the White House to restore golden relations between Israel and the United States.
Obstructing the deal by adding new conditions
The writer and specialist in Israeli affairs, Antoine Shalhat, said: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will try to obstruct the conclusion of the deal proposed by US President Joe Biden by adding new conditions to it, aiming to sabotage reaching an agreement.
Shalhat added: "Netanyahu believes that his visit to the United States can enlist more American support to achieve the goals of the war, and there are expectations that pressure will be exerted on him to reach the deal. However, there are no strong indications yet that the deal is close to being concluded."
Netanyahu looks forward to Trump's return
He pointed out that Netanyahu is looking forward to the upcoming US presidential elections, as he hopes that their results will lead to the return of Donald Trump to the White House and the restoration of golden and strong relations between Israel and the United States. Naturally, this does not mean that relations between the two sides are bad now, but they are faced with crises resulting from observations from the current American administration on the conduct of the war and some of Israel’s practices.
Regarding the Knesset holiday and its impact on the deal, Shalhat said: This holiday will increase Netanyahu’s exclusivity in making decisions, and prevent the opposition from disrupting the government’s work, not only with regard to the deal, but also in other laws such as the conscription law.
He explained that internal crises threaten the government coalition in Israel and exacerbate problems, but the Knesset recess gives Netanyahu an opportunity to evade these crises, take decisions alone, and implement his political or personal plans. However, it does not prevent these crises from erupting in the future, due to Israel’s inability to resolve the war in its favor.
Netanyahu will hold America responsible for the failure in the war
For his part, writer and political analyst Dr. Raed Nairat: All Israeli news and statements indicate that there is a negative impact of Netanyahu’s visit to the United States, and the Knesset’s holiday, on the conclusion of the proposed deal, noting that the families of the Israeli detainees raised the slogan, “A visit to the United States is tolerable, but the lives of our children are unbearable.”
Nairat explained that Netanyahu is trying, indirectly, through his visit to the United States, to suggest that the reason for the failure in the war and failure to achieve its goals is the lack of American support, even though this is not true, pointing out that US President Joe Biden fears that Donald Trump will take advantage of him. This point is in his election propaganda.
An opportunity to manipulate the subject of the deal
As for the Knesset recess next November, Nairat stressed that this gives Netanyahu a greater opportunity to manipulate the issue of the deal and pressure the resistance to make greater concessions.
Nairat ruled out concluding the deal before the US elections, because Netanyahu does not want to complete it now.
He pointed out that what is required to conclude the deal is an Arab position, as well as from the Palestinian Authority, to put pressure on the United States, which in turn will put pressure on Israel, stressing the importance of this position, especially after the Knesset’s decision to legitimize non-recognition of a Palestinian state.
Sammour: Trump sells words and is stingy with money and weapons
Writer and political analyst Sari Samour believes that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking to extend the existing state of war in the Gaza Strip until the American elections, or perhaps reach a first stage of the deal before those elections.
Sammour explained that Netanyahu believes that Donald Trump's return to power is guaranteed due to the decline in Joe Biden's popularity, but he forgets that Trump focuses on political positions and populist rhetoric, and is stingy with funding and arms support.
Showing off his heroism before Congress
Sammour pointed out that Netanyahu's visit to the United States aims to showcase his heroism before the US Congress and demonize Iran and the Hamas movement, and that his goal is to defend values and civilization in the Middle East.
Samour does not believe that the deal can be concluded before the US elections, unless the Netanyahu government is subjected to sufficient pressure through strikes and major steps, and not just demonstrations.
Samour explained, "The Knesset holiday is not a real obstacle, as the holiday can be interrupted to hold sessions if necessary."
He pointed out that Netanyahu is facing great pressure in Israel, but he rebelled against the army after the seventh of last October, and is trying to overthrow the political system in Israel, and that Netanyahu's continuation of this approach may lead Israel towards the abyss.
Sammour pointed out that the army has recently been announcing its losses more, to pressure Netanyahu to end the war, and at the same time there are pens writing in the press that there are achievements and assassinations of resistance leaders, and the destruction of its structure, in order to continue the war.
Netanyahu and his coalition openly support Trump
As for the writer and political analyst specializing in Israeli affairs, Nihad Abu Ghosh, he considered that the American elections are still far away, as there are three and a half months remaining until their date, indicating that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not interested in offering any gift to President Joe Biden before the elections, as Netanyahu and his coalition They openly support Donald Trump, and are waiting for his rise after the US presidential elections.
Abu Ghosh said: Netanyahu wants to visit Washington to make it appear that he supports the deal, but on his terms, and in reality he is not concerned with it.
He pointed out that Netanyahu's upcoming speech before the US Congress aims to gain support by emphasizing his confrontation of "the forces of evil" and his preservation of values, expecting that Netanyahu will find support from Congress, given the presence of great bias and influence for members of Congress in decision-making centers.
Regarding Trump’s support for Israel, Abu Ghosh pointed out that Trump is an eccentric person, and has given a lot to Israel, and he may surprise Netanyahu with positions contrary to what he wants, even though it is more likely that he will support him.
Conclusion of the deal and the risk of early elections
Regarding the conclusion of the deal and its Israeli support, Abu Ghosh said: There is a clear majority in the Knesset, the Cabinet, the government and the Israeli military leadership that supports the conclusion of the deal, but Netanyahu opposes that, because concluding the first phase of it means calm and heading to early elections in Israel, which is what he does not want. .
Abu Ghosh added: “Netanyahu succeeded in extending the war until the Knesset entered its recess, which means extending the war for another three months, apart from a vote of no confidence in the government, as the Knesset only holds its sessions in emergency cases and under specific conditions.”
