UNRWA: Gaza City has become isolated from the arrival of aid and its streets have been destroyed
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said, “Gaza City has become mostly isolated from international aid access, and its streets have been leveled.”
The Washington Post quoted UNRWA communications officer Louise Waterridge as saying: “After 9 months of war, Gaza City has become one of the most deprived cities in the Strip, mostly isolated from the arrival of international aid, and entire streets have been leveled by Israeli air strikes.” .
Commenting on the occupation forces’ issuance two days ago of a new “evacuation” order for Gaza City ordering all its residents to move south, Waterridge explained, “As the United Nations convoy approached the city, we saw some Palestinian families leaving on foot, apparently searching for refuge in the south.” ".
She added, "The people of Gaza City raised their hands in the air as they walked toward the Israeli checkpoints, while the weather was scorching, and there was only a little shade."
Describing the situation of displaced children and their families from Gaza, Waterridge noted that they were “often carrying white flags on sticks made of any white cloth they could find.”
She stressed that "the families she met there were living in miserable conditions."
Many of the women the UN official spoke to described their births as “painful” without health care, and the girls spoke of the lack of clean water or any sanitary products.
