The Egyptian President: We reject the use of the Rafah crossing as a tool to tighten the siege on Gaza
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi warned on Saturday against using the Rafah crossing as a tool to tighten the siege on the Gaza Strip.
This came in a speech by the Egyptian President, in a press conference with his Serbian counterpart, Aleksandar Vucic, in Cairo, according to a statement by the Egyptian Presidency.
Al-Sisi said that the discussions with his Serbian counterpart stressed the necessity of a ceasefire in Gaza that has been ongoing for 10 months.
He stressed Egypt's refusal to use the Rafah land crossing as a tool to tighten the siege on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
Since May 7, Israel has controlled the Rafah crossing from the Palestinian side, amid Egyptian refusal and holding Tel Aviv responsible for closing it and disrupting the entry of food aid into the Strip.
The Rafah crossing is the main and only crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, through which aid and individuals pass.
