With every prisoner who is liberated from the occupation prisons, new and terrifying chapters of torture, abuse, oppression and suffering are revealed that all prisoners from different regions and all ages experience, in the ugliest forms, colors and types, which reached their peak in the past nine months, which is the lifetime of the brutal Israeli war on the Gaza Strip. .
The prisoners have been living in the occupation prisons since the beginning of the war of extermination, “without immunity” that protects them from the oppression of their jailers and the racist institution that stands behind them. The role of local and international human rights institutions has been frozen, or absent, for nine months, as well as their “credit as a prisoner movement,” which they took with their struggle and sacrifices, with which the state was struck. The occupation has exposed the walls of the prison, and it has become free from any previous understandings.
The occupying state took advantage of what happened on October 7, and its criminal war, to settle its scores with the prisoners, because it considered that it had a great revenge with them, since they were detained for their resistance to the occupation, and this applies to all detainees before and after the war, except for the revenge and vengeance that exceeded all imagination. The share of the prisoners of Gaza Qatagh.
Moaz Abayat, the bodybuilding champion, and journalist Moaz Amarneh, are two prisoners from Bethlehem who were released last Tuesday in a deplorable situation, to the point where their features changed, due to the horror of what they suffered like the rest of the detainees in the occupation prisons during the past months.

Torture in the presence of Ben Gvir.

In an interview with “ے,” Khalil Abayat, the father of the freed prisoner Muazzaz Abayat (37 years old), recounts the details of the suffering, torture, and starvation his son went through. He entered the prison weighing 110 kilograms, and left weighing 55 kilograms, lacking memory and in a difficult physical and psychological condition.
He explained that his son was subjected to severe torture, and came out of prison in a difficult health condition, suffering from fractures in his hands and feet, burns on his feet, injuries to his head, and loss of memory, as he did not recognize his family, including his wife, children, and parents, and despite doctors confirming that His health and memory will improve with time. Moazzad’s psychological and physical condition is very difficult so far.
From what was narrated by Abayat’s father, quoting his son Muazzaz, that the criminal Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, visited Ofer Prison last December, and ordered the torture of Muazzaz, and placed him in a black bag like those in which the dead are placed, after he was tied with iron handcuffs in the cell. His hands, feet, and neck. They believed that he had been martyred, and he was transferred to Beersheba Prison, but when it turned out that he had not died, he was transferred to Negev Prison and there he was subjected to more torture and starvation.
Abayat added: “Muazaz, along with the rest of the prisoners, was subjected to the starvation policy. They were sprayed with cold water in the winter. They also suffered from a shortage of blankets and clothes for 90 days. When he was released from prison, he was beaten with iron batons. Muazzaz also suffers from the skin disease ‘Scabius’, which is Need to treat for several days.

Bodybuilding champion

The freed prisoner, Muazzaz Abayat, belongs to a family of 11 members, and he is the middle one among his siblings. He worked as a butcher and was a champion bodybuilder, and had a strong physical structure before his arrest. His father said that he named him “Moaz” out of pampering and pride.
Muazzaz has five children, the eldest of whom is 13 years old and the youngest is two months old. His wife was pregnant in her first month and gave birth two months ago. Muazzaz had previously been arrested after being injured years ago, and spent 48 months in prison. This time, the jailers deliberately beat him at the site of his previous injury. .
In 2002, Muazzaz Abayat was 11 years old at the time, and he was one of the children who were trapped inside the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Muazzaz and a group of children were forced to enter the church in search of protection during the period of the Israeli siege. They were arrested for days and then released. His father explained.
Khalil Abayat confirmed that what his son Muazzaz was subjected to was a major crime, expressing his fear that the rest of the prisoners would face the same fate as his son or worse.

Testimony of journalist Moaz Amarneh

As for journalist Moaz Ibrahim Amarneh, who lost his eye years ago, as a result of being shot by the occupation forces while covering the events at the time, he provided testimony about the details of his arrest, and his exposure to humiliation, torture, and medical neglect in the Megiddo and Negev prisons, which led to a significant deterioration of his health condition, especially He suffers from diabetes, and from an injury in which he lost his eye, and became almost blind after his glasses were confiscated.
Amarneh (37 years old) from the Dheisheh camp, south of Bethlehem, said: “I was arrested from my home at dawn on October 16, and I was insulted and threatened. I was transferred to the Etzion Center. I was searched naked and saw the prisoners being beaten with sticks. After that, I was transferred by bus to the prison.” Megiddo on the morning of last October 18, accompanied by 100 prisoners, and we were afraid that we would be transferred to Gaza without knowing our fate.”

5 months of abuse, threats and starvation in Megiddo

According to Amarneh, the stage of torture in Megiddo prison began with a strip search, and he said: “I was subjected to insults, beatings, and death threats, like all prisoners, as they were severely beaten all over the body using sticks, hands, and feet, and we were threatened with death and rape.”
Amarneh continued: “I remained in Megiddo prison for five months, including a month in Section 8, and the rest in Section 1, without changing or washing clothes for 70 days. I was subjected to a policy of starvation and deprivation of food, which was very scarce, as a meal was provided to one person for 10 prisoners to share.” And maybe more."
Amarneh explained that when he entered Section 8, he was unable to stand on his feet due to the severity of the beatings and the harsh transportation process during his arrest, especially since he suffers from diabetes and did not eat any food, and the journey of agony and distance took four hours.
He added: "I was subjected to daily searches and beatings, and I did not receive treatment for my injury from a bullet lodged near my skull, when I was shot by the Israeli occupation forces about five years ago, while working as a journalist. My glasses were also confiscated, which caused me great suffering, and I became almost blind, until they were... Allowing me to buy glasses on my own account after four months.”
Moaz continued: "During my detention, I lost a large portion of my weight, amounting to about 20 kilograms, as a result of the starvation policy, as the meals were insufficient and unhealthy."

In the Negev... another journey of torment

On the eighteenth of last April, Moaz was transferred to the Negev prison, where he was subjected to beatings and strip searches again. The starvation policy continued, but it increased after the Jewish “Passover” holiday, while Moaz pointed out that he suffered from skin infections, and he was presented with He received treatment after weeks of suffering and deliberate medical neglect, to which all prisoners are exposed.

He suffers from contagious skin scabiosis

Upon his release last Tuesday, Moaz suffered from insults and ill-treatment, and left prison suffering from the “Scabius” skin disease, which prevented him from shaking hands or hugging anyone, even his children and mother, so as not to transmit the disease to them, despite his longing for them, and he is still receiving... Treatment so far, it needs more days.

Isolated from the outside world

Amarneh stressed that despite all the difficult circumstances, the morale of the prisoners is high and they wish for relief and freedom, noting that they suffer from isolation from the outside world, and only receive what is conveyed by the new prisoners or their lawyers.
He pointed out that he was arrested and the occupation tried to charge him with incitement, due to his journalistic work, and he remained for about nine months in administrative detention, with a “case” being tried for at the same time.
Amarneh said: "This was the most difficult detention experience I have ever experienced, especially after the events of last October 7, where all prisoners suffer from difficult conditions, while Gaza prisoners suffer doubly ill-treatment."

A bullet lodged in the skull

Journalist Moaz Amarneh was injured about five years ago, and lost his left eye while covering events near Hebron, in 2019. He subsequently suffered from health problems in his eye that resulted in ulcers and secretions. From then until his arrest, he needed health care, especially because the bullet that hit him was still lodged in the wall of his skull and could not be removed due to the danger it posed to him. Moaz also suffered from severe headaches, and also developed diabetes, and needed special care and continuous treatment.

Al-Zaghari calls for the formation of an investigation committee

In turn, the head of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club, Abdullah Al-Zaghari, said in an interview with “ے” that the effects of torture and physical changes on the liberated prisoners, especially Moaz Abayat, confirm the extent of the crimes to which the prisoners were exposed, noting that all prisoners were subjected to a systematic targeting policy. .
Al-Zaghari stressed that the attempt to assassinate Obaiyat expresses the extent of hatred and revenge, and is one of hundreds of testimonies that confirm the occupation’s continued policy of torture and starvation of prisoners. He pointed out that what Obaiyat is currently experiencing is his constant remembrance of the attempted murder and the effects of the crime committed against him and his fellow prisoners. He pointed out that what is happening to the prisoners represents dangerous indicators that warn of receiving other prisoners in bad and difficult conditions.

Ben Gvir personally participated in the torture of prisoners

Al-Zaghari touched on Ben Gvir’s personal participation in the torture of prisoners in Ofer prison, according to Abayat’s account, stressing that Ben Gvir visited Ofer and Negev prisons several times, and took advantage of the war against the Palestinian people to implement torture policies against prisoners. He stressed that the extreme right-wing occupation government poses a danger not only to the Palestinians, but to the international system in general.
Al-Zaghari pointed out that the prisoners are going through the most difficult stage in the history of the prisoner movement, calling for international intervention and the formation of an investigation committee into what is happening, especially against the prisoners of the Gaza Strip who are subjected to multiple crimes.
