UN: 90% of the people of Gaza suffered displacement, and 110,000 left for Egypt

The United Nations reported that 9 out of every 10 people in the Gaza Strip have been displaced once since the start of the war, estimating their number at about 1.9 million people, adding that 110,000 people left Gaza for Egypt before the Rafah crossing was closed.

Andrea Di Domenico, Director of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OCHA), revealed that about 1.9 million Gazans have been displaced “at least once, if not up to 10 times, since last October.”

From Jerusalem, he told reporters in New York and Geneva, “Previously we estimated that there were 1.7 million displaced people, but since reaching this number we had the operation in Rafah and additional displacement there, and then we also witnessed operations in the north that led to the movement of people. Such military operations forced people to move.” To reset their lives frequently.

Di Domenico added, "Behind these numbers, there are people with fears and complaints. They may have had dreams and hopes. Unfortunately, today I fear that they are decreasing little by little, and the people who were transferred in the past nine months were like pawns in a board game."

He continued, "Israeli military operations divided the Gaza Strip into two parts, with the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs estimating that there are between 300 and 350 thousand people living in the north of the besieged area and who were unable to go to the south."

He added that since the start of the war, "an estimated 110,000 people were able to leave the Gaza Strip to Egypt before the Rafah crossing was closed in early May. Some of them remained in Egypt, while others moved to other countries."

Since October 7, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip with absolute American support, leaving more than 122,000 Palestinians dead or wounded.

Israel continues its aggression despite two UN Security Council resolutions to stop it immediately, and orders from the International Court of Justice to end the invasion of Rafah and take measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the dire humanitarian situation in the besieged Strip.
