Australia supports the International Justice Resolution regarding Rafah

On Saturday, Australia expressed its support for the decision of the International Court of Justice, which ordered Israel to immediately stop its attacks on the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

The ABC News website reported that Australian Climate and Energy Minister Chris Bowen likened the city of Rafah to a refuge for those fleeing the northern Gaza Strip as a result of Israeli attacks.

He added in a statement: “We are very clear in our position that Rafah should not be attacked,” and said that all parties, including Israel, must abide by the binding decisions of the International Court of Justice.

The Australian minister added: "We believe that the decisions of the International Court of Justice should be implemented and that Israel should not occupy Rafah."

With the approval of 13 of its members and the rejection of two members, the Court of Justice issued, on Friday, new temporary measures demanding that Israel “immediately stop its attack on Rafah,” “maintain the opening of the Rafah crossing to facilitate the entry of aid into Gaza,” and “submit a report to the court within a month on the steps.” taken” in this regard.

These new measures came from the court, which is the highest judicial body in the United Nations, in response to a request from South Africa as part of a comprehensive lawsuit filed by Pretoria at the end of December 2023, accusing Tel Aviv of “committing genocide crimes” in the Gaza Strip.
