For the 17th day...Israel continues to close the Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings
The Israeli occupation forces continue to close the Rafah border crossing and the Kerem Shalom commercial crossing in the southern Gaza Strip, for the seventeenth day in a row, amid warnings of a worsening humanitarian situation.
On May 7, the Israeli forces occupied the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing and stopped the flow of aid to the Gaza Strip.
Since the fifth of the same month, these forces have continued to close the Kerem Shalom commercial crossing southeast of the city of Rafah, and prevent the entry of humanitarian and medical aid.
The World Food Program stressed the need for “safe and sustainable” access to aid in order to prevent famine in the northern Gaza Strip, “but (Israeli) evacuation orders prevent this.”
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned that failure to open land crossings and safe access to them portends the continuation of catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip.
There were about 1.4 million displaced people in Rafah, who had previously been forcibly displaced by the Israeli occupation, claiming that it was “safe,” before it launched a ground attack and intense air strikes that resulted in hundreds of martyrs and wounded.
Israel forced more than 810,000 citizens to forcibly displace from the city of Rafah to other areas during the past two weeks, and every time families are displaced, their lives are exposed to grave danger, and they are forced to leave everything behind, in search of safety, but there is no safe area.” According to UNRWA.
According to the latest developments on the ground, the Israeli military vehicles entered the Shaboura camp, in the center of the city of Rafah, with intense bombardment continuing by land, in Bajra and in the air.
