Arab League calls for an international conference for a two-state solution

Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, called on Tuesday for holding "an international conference in which all parties convinced of the two-state solution and wishing to enhance the chances of its realization will participate."

Aboul Gheit said - in his opening speech at the Arab ministerial preparatory meeting for the Arab summit scheduled for next Thursday for the first time in the Bahraini capital, Manama - that the Arab position “seeks to mobilize support for the recognition of Palestine... as part of a path that leads to an international conference in which all parties convinced of the two-state solution participate.”

He added, "The Palestinian and Israeli parties are unable to reach a solution on their own. They need intensive and continuous international intervention."

He said, "Bahrain assumes the presidency of the thirty-third summit in critical circumstances for our nation," in reference to the devastating war that Israel has waged on the Gaza Strip since last October 7.

He explained, "No words are sufficient to express the feelings of anger mixed with sadness that we all have. Feelings of black revenge against the leaders of the Israeli occupation have taken over until they have lost the basics of human sense."

He pointed out that these people committed crimes that have a known name in sound humanitarian law, adding that after months of accumulation of atrocities, the world has become ready to clearly describe this name as “ethnic cleansing.”

He stressed that "every action, whether Arab or international, to put an end to this crime remains an utmost necessity."

He explained that "the Arab effort, over the past months, whether within the framework of the ministerial committee concerned with the Palestinian issue or other frameworks... moved on two levels."

The first level, according to Aboul Gheit, was “to stop the war immediately, provide relief to the people of Gaza, and confront the displacement plan that is rejected by the Arabs and internationally, and the second was to work without delay in order to achieve the vision of the two states.”

Regarding the summit agenda, Aboul Gheit continued, saying, “Although the Gaza tragedy dominates minds and tears hearts... the agenda of this council is crowded with other Arab issues that have imposed themselves,” pointing to the situation in Sudan “in light of the war that has been raging for more than a year.” “Between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.

Ambassador Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, had expected in his statements yesterday, Monday, that “the Bahrain summit will emerge with positive decisions and unified positions regarding the Arab issues and challenges raised,” according to what was reported by the official Bahraini News Agency.

It is noteworthy that the Israeli occupation army has been waging a devastating war on Gaza since the seventh of last October, leaving tens of thousands of martyrs and wounded, most of them women and children, which cost Tel Aviv a lawsuit filed by South Africa before the International Court of Justice for genocide.
