Israeli settlers set fire to the UNRWA headquarters in Jerusalem
At dawn on Tuesday, settlers threw flammable materials at the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), located in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, in occupied Jerusalem, for the third time in a week.
Local sources reported that a number of settlers set fire to parts of the outer square and threw stones towards the headquarters.
On the ninth of this month, the Agency's Commissioner General, Philippe Lazzarini, announced "the closure of the headquarters in Jerusalem, until the occupation authorities take appropriate security measures," due to settlers attempting to burn it twice within a week.
UNRWA stressed that it is Israel's responsibility, as an occupying power, to ensure the protection of United Nations personnel and facilities at all times, in accordance with international law.
It is noteworthy that this is the third attack on the UNRWA headquarters in Jerusalem within a week, as a number of settlers, protected by the occupation police, attacked the headquarters last Wednesday and Thursday, and attempted to storm it and set fire to its surroundings.
