WHO warns of the collapse of the health system in the Gaza Strip

The World Health Organization warned on Friday that the health system in the Gaza Strip would completely collapse if the flow of fuel stopped following the closure of the Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings.

This came in statements by the organization’s spokeswoman, Margaret Harris, during the weekly press conference of the United Nations office in Geneva, about the situation in the besieged Gaza Strip, which is subject to a devastating Israeli aggression.

Harris said that the organization supported some health centers in Gaza, including Nasser Hospital, after Israel launched a ground attack on Rafah on May 6, and that this measure was implemented “as part of the emergency plan” despite the ground attack on Rafah in the south of the Strip.

She stated that the World Health Organization is storing health supplies in various hospitals, field hospitals, and specific areas.

She pointed out the importance of fuel entering the Gaza Strip, saying: “Without fuel, everything that is done in our hospital will stop, and it will no longer be possible to perform life-saving treatments here.”

“Without fuel, the entire healthcare system will collapse,” she added, stressing that destroying access to the healthcare system “would be catastrophic for everyone.”

For the sixth day in a row, the Israeli occupation army continues to close the Kerem Shalom commercial crossing and the Rafah crossing for the fourth day.

In an infinite toll, the number of dead of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip since the seventh of last October has risen to 34,904, and more than 78,514 injured, and thousands of victims are still under rubble and on the roads, and ambulance and civil defense crews cannot reach them, amid destruction and massive famine that claimed the lives of children and the elderly.
