Analysts to "Al-Quds": Storming the Rafah crossing is a prelude to a larger invasion
Political writers and analysts warned during an interview with Al-Quds.com of the dangers resulting from the Israeli occupation forces storming the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing and extending their control over it, as it portends great dangers that would exacerbate the humanitarian conditions of about one and a half million displaced people in Rafah, noting that Israel will not achieve its goals, but it does not want to reach an agreement with Hamas, which would constitute an implicit admission of the failure of the war on the Gaza Strip.
The writer and political analyst, Dr. Ali Al-Jarbawi said that Israel has a very long-standing desire to control the crossing, and the time has come for it to achieve what it wants. This also comes in the context of pressuring Hamas to amend its position regarding any agreement related to detainees, and it is actually trying to prove to Hamas and to the world that it will not end the war. With an agreement with the movement, Israel is determined that no agreement will occur because this is an implicit admission of the failure of the war.
Al-Jarbawi points out that Israel does not want the war to stop unless its goals have been achieved. Even if the goals are not achieved, Israel is the one that wants to announce an end to the war and to prove that the decision is in its hands. It is determined to have full control over the Gaza Strip and to withdraw from it whenever it wants. It is It is also determined not to leave an area in the Gaza Strip without entering it, pointing out that there is no statement or position of any Israeli official that does not support the invasion of Rafah.
Al-Jarbawi points out that even the United States has no objection to the invasion of Rafah, but rather wants to reduce the number of casualties, noting that the storming of the crossing and the bombing took place with American approval.
For his part, writer and political analyst Khalil Shaheen believes that Netanyahu wants to please Ben Gvir and Smotrich on the one hand by storming the crossing, and to please Gantz by sending a negotiating delegation to Cairo, in the context of preserving his government coalition, and proving his ability to reject any pressure to which he is exposed.
Shaheen says: “The storming of the Rafah crossing comes in the context of a gradual Israeli plan to completely invade and control Rafah, and as part of a plan to pressure and eliminate Hamas, and end any role it has in the Gaza Strip. Also, controlling the crossing comes in the context of striking Hamas’ military capabilities.” .
Shaheen continues, “What is happening in the Gaza Strip is also a struggle for survival between Hamas and Israel, which is trying to eliminate the movement not only militarily, but also its ability to rule and end its control, as happened in the north by targeting the police and municipalities, but Hamas has proven its ability to restore Impose control".
Shaheen points out that Netanyahu promised his fans to storm Rafah, and he repeats this, and it has become difficult for him to retreat from the storm, especially since he is promoting the three goals of the war: “recovering the detainees, eliminating Hamas’ military capabilities, as well as eliminating its rule.” But if the storm occurred, We may witness the launching of missiles that reach the center of the occupied territories, in parallel with the commission of massacres, and it will not be able to achieve its goals.
According to writer and political analyst Adnan Al-Sabah, Israel is seeking to close the crossing with Egypt, so that there will be no relationship between Egypt and the Gaza Strip. He says: “Egypt is the depth of the Palestinian issue.”
Al-Sabah confirms that the storming of the crossing was to put pressure on the displaced people in Rafah, tighten the siege, and push for the displacement of the Palestinians to the floating port, since Israel historically believes in keeping the Palestinians away from the border, and the most prominent goal of Israel and America is to control the wealth of the Strip.
Al-Sabah stresses that Israel will not achieve victory in the Gaza Strip, and there is only destruction and revenge in Gaza, in exchange for the steadfastness of the people of Gaza despite what they are facing, while Al-Sabah indicates that what is happening in Rafah is being done with an American green light, but that will be for days and on a limited basis, because America cannot tolerate any upcoming protests, and Biden and the US administration may announce a halt to the war.
Writer and political analyst Jihad Harb says: “The storming of the Rafah crossing and its control comes as a continuation of the siege of Gaza after besieging it from the north, east, south and sea, thus completely depriving the people of the only crossing. The storming is also an attempt to maintain control over the Strip, and prevent the possibility of there being any Contact with the outside world.”
Harb continues, “Israel is trying to complete its plans by controlling the Rafah crossing, as well as establishing an (underground) barrier to prevent the smuggling of weapons into Gaza, although Israel has not publicly announced this, but Gantz’s recent statements explain it, in addition to the fact that storming the crossing is a prelude to preparations.” In the future to invade Rafah.
Harb added, “There are other reasons related to Israel’s attempt to invade Rafah, for what Netanyahu calls achieving absolute victory, and that his invasion of Rafah may weaken the resistance, but he will not be able to break it, despite Israel fighting the longest war in its history,” stressing the insistence of the Gazan citizens on Staying and not emigrating in these circumstances, especially since the Palestinians have experienced the bitterness of asylum and do not want to repeat the experience. Harb does not believe that what is being talked about about displacing the Palestinians through the floating port is possible since it is not currently prepared.
Harb points out that America agrees to invade Rafah, which has emerged over the past months, but on the condition that no major massacres occur, so that America’s image is not damaged and university demonstrations expand before the American elections.
