Lapid doubts the government's desire to return Israeli prisoners

Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid, on Monday evening, questioned Benjamin Netanyahu's government's desire to return prisoners from the Gaza Strip, after Hamas accepted a mediators' proposal that included a ceasefire and a deal to exchange a number of prisoners.

In a blog post on his account on the “X” platform, Lapid said that the Netanyahu government “if it had wanted to return the kidnapped (Israeli prisoners) would have now held an urgent discussion and sent negotiating teams to Cairo” to end the deal approved by Hamas.

He added that this government, on the contrary, issued “hysterically” what he said were “three different briefings from different sources,” considering that it was thus “crushing the hearts of the families of the kidnapped.”

He concluded his tweet by saying: "This is a national shame."

In his talk about what he described as “three different briefings from different sources,” Lapid apparently meant what Israeli media reported in the past few minutes from anonymous responsible sources that reduced the possibility of Israel accepting the deal with Hamas.

These sources said that the talk was about a different proposal than the one approved by Israel.
