Israeli newspaper: Netanyahu prefers Hamas authority in Gaza
The Israeli newspaper "Jerusalem Post" said on Friday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's goal in the war is derived from weakening Hamas, not eliminating it completely.
In a report published in its Friday issue, the Israeli newspaper said: “A simple but painful truth: Netanyahu prefers a weak Hamas in Gaza to secure power and avoid recognition of alternatives by the international community.”
The newspaper pointed out that "the war ended in Gaza with a weak reaction, simply because Netanyahu prefers the weak Hamas, which still controls Gaza, over any other entity that enjoys international recognition and cooperation. This is for personal and political reasons that are not difficult to understand."

The Jerusalem Post added, “Hamas, which has been weakened but exists and controls the Gaza Strip, is key to Netanyahu’s chances of allowing the status quo to remain in place, including his remaining in power.”
In the report, the Hebrew newspaper stated that “Netanyahu has a set of negative personality traits, but stupidity is not one of them. He also has great experience in managing and indoctrinating people. Therefore, the fact that Israel ended the ground maneuver in Gaza and voluntarily dropped all pressure tools from October Until December 2023, at a time when Hamas is still far from being eliminated, and the hostages are still in the tunnels, is worrying.”
