Israeli writer: Biden has a plan to bring about a coup, but the problem is called Netanyahu

Israeli diplomat and writer Alon Pinkas said that US President Joe Biden has a plan that would bring about a real change in the rules of the game in the Gaza Strip and the Middle East.

The writer considered that this plan is more feasible now than it was a year ago, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - who is still the decision-maker - will not be the reliable partner when implementing it.

He added - in an analytical article in Haaretz newspaper - that speculation, wishful thinking, and misleading and false information have permeated endless discussions and debates since the summer of 2023 regarding an agreement between the United States, Israel, and Arab countries.

According to the writer, these discussions lacked political feasibility. Given the constitutional coup that Netanyahu has been instigating, it is doubtful that Biden was ever convinced that this agreement could see the light of day.

Useless

The Israeli diplomat expressed his belief that reconsidering the idea of an agreement between the United States, Israel and Arab countries - with its positives and negatives - is no longer useful now.

He added that the political logic, in accordance with the requirements of the period before the attack of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) last October 7, which reshaped the Middle East region, has become more urgent, and it can even be said that it has become inevitable.

However - the writer continues - Israel does not pay attention to the matter, nor is it willing or prepared politically to make strategic decisions. Things are all tactical in nature, and anger and frustration dominate it, and it takes its toll on the horizon on the three fronts of confrontation against the Hamas movement in Gaza and Hezbollah. In Lebanon, and against Iran.

He went on to say that Israel, since its descent into a "useless" war, has been promoting the invasion of Rafah as an "imaginary" turning point that would end the war decisively.

Then, according to the article, Rafah is not like Stalingrad, the Soviet city that was the scene of one of the most important major and decisive battles that changed the course of World War II.

Post-war

The writer believes that Israel can choose to end the war, assist and participate in an Arab peacekeeping force governing the Gaza Strip, and begin normalizing relations with Arab countries.

This is in addition to the involvement of the Palestinian Authority in a process that would eventually lead - but not immediately - to the establishment of a Palestinian state whose features and coordinates would emerge from the negotiations, and which would be an essential part of a regional alliance led by the United States to confront Iran, as the writer put it.

The Israeli diplomat said that these points are essentially the entirety of the US President's plan, considering that since the "horrors of October 7" there has been an opportunity to reimagine the security structure of the region in a way that may not have been possible during the summer of 2023.

In order to do this, the United States needs a credible, reliable, and willing Israeli partner, according to the Israeli writer, who does not see that partner in Netanyahu, advising the Americans to realize and comprehend this fact.
