Israeli writer: A terrible defeat befell Israel

Truth be told, Israel lost the war, as Haim Levinson, the writer and political analyst, put it in his article in Haaretz newspaper.

The writer explained that the inability to acknowledge this fact “reduces everything one needs to know about the psychology of Israelis, individually and collectively.”

Levinson said that the truth is clear, sweeping, and predictable so that it can be explored, dealt with, absorbed, and lessons can be drawn from it for the future.

He added, "Admitting that we lost (the war) is not amusing...but we may not be able to return safely to Israel's northern borders."

He added that half a year after the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) attacked Israel, the Israelis could have been in a completely different situation, had they not become prisoners of “the worst leadership in the country’s history” and led by a real competitor for the title of “worst leadership” anywhere. Absolutely.

Chaim Levinson: The reality is that the goals of the war will not be achieved, that Hamas will not be eradicated from the face of the earth, that the prisoners will not be returned in a military operation, and that security will not be restored.

Levinson criticized the Israelis' tendency toward unjustified optimism that tomorrow will be fine and that their work will ultimately be crowned with great success.

He considered this “the essence of the failure of human thought,” which is reflected in the belief that “the path we are on is good... with a little effort, the prisoners will return home, the Hamas movement will surrender, and its leader Yahya Sinwar will be killed, because we are the good ones, and goodness will triumph.”

He added that this is the same mentality that believes that "the Iranian regime will collapse soon," adding that Israelis must "tell the truth even if it is annoying and harmful, and even if some disapprove of it and weaken morale."

The writer called for confronting the propaganda machines of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying: “Wouldn’t anyone who dared to say on October 1 that the head of military intelligence was incompetent, and that military intelligence It was able to plan successful operations, but was unable to issue a warning of a coming war, and that the Shin Bet domestic intelligence service was in a deep sleep?!

He added that some politicians would have demanded that such a person be accused of spreading false news, “despite the indications that the military institution was in a bad state,” as he put it.

He went on to say that no government minister is able to restore the Israelis' sense of personal security, because "any threat from Iran will make our chances tremble. Our international standing has received a strong blow, and the weakness of our leadership has been exposed abroad."

He continued, "For years, we have succeeded in deceiving ourselves into thinking that we are a strong country, a wise people, and a strong army..."

According to the article, the invasion of the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, is nothing more than the latest hoax repeated by media outlets, “so that we have come to believe that victory is only moments away.”

He concluded that the reality is that the goals of the war will not be achieved, that the Hamas movement will not be eradicated from the face of the earth, that the prisoners will not be returned in a military operation, and that security will not be restored.
