Norway declares its readiness to recognize the State of Palestine
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Storhe said on Friday that his country is ready to recognize the State of Palestine.
This came during a joint press conference with his Spanish counterpart, Pedro Sanchez, in Oslo, according to a statement by the Norwegian Prime Minister.
Stoura added that Norway is also ready to support Palestine’s membership in the United Nations after its recognition.
He stressed that “the basic issue is supporting peace in the region, and determining the timing and how to do so.”
Stoura explained that Norway shares Spain's opinion on some issues related to Palestine and cooperates with it.
He added that they will increase their effectiveness in this regard in the coming weeks.
On Thursday, the Spanish Prime Minister began a two-day tour to Poland, Norway and Ireland with the aim of working with other countries in the European Union to reach recognition of the Palestinian state.
The Spanish government is making intense diplomatic efforts to hold an international peace conference based on the two-state solution, pledging to recognize the State of Palestine before next summer.
