Blinken: Palestinians are among “the most oppressed Muslims in the world”
In a statement to mark Eid Al-Fitr, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken highlighted the plight of Palestinians in the West Bank as he cited Muslims as victims of some of the worst ongoing conflicts in the world.
“We are thinking particularly of the critical situation of the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, of the civilians in Syria, of the women suffering under the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, of the Uyghurs in the People's Republic of China, to the Rohingya in Myanmar and Bangladesh and we are still thinking of many more, far too many,” Blinken said.
“Far too many have lost a loved one in the past year, and many are worried about the safety and well-being of their families today. I hope that this year, Eid al-Fitr will mark a step on the path to a period to come that will be more hopeful, more freedom and more peaceful,” Blinken continued.
“The United States is committed to defending human rights for people around the world; to provide humanitarian assistance where it is desperately needed and to work to bring lasting peace, dignity and security for all communities,” he continued, wishing Muslim communities around the world a happy holiday and praying for a more peaceful year ahead.
