Hebrew newspaper: The Supreme Court is close to issuing a ceasefire decision in Gaza

A Hebrew newspaper warned that the Supreme Court of Justice is close to issuing a ceasefire decision in Gaza.

Israel Today newspaper revealed that the Israeli defense team in The Hague is concerned about the fact that last Thursday only two votes out of 16 members of the judiciary tipped the balance to refrain from issuing a precautionary order to stop the war based on the third request from South Africa.

Seven judges decided in a minority opinion that Israel must stop the fighting in Gaza and that the fighting violates previous court orders regarding Israel's duty to care for the humanitarian situation of the residents of Gaza.

On January 26, the court ordered Israel to take measures to prevent genocide in Gaza and direct incitement to it, as it rejected the Israeli request to dismiss the lawsuit filed by South Africa.

A large majority of members of the court's 17-judge panel voted in favor of taking urgent measures that meet most of what South Africa requested, with the exception of directing an order to stop the war on Gaza.

Last Thursday, seven judges supported stopping the war and wrote that even if “Israel” had worked sufficiently, in examining the outcome, the humanitarian situation in Gaza was worsening, and stopping the fighting alone would stop its deterioration.

The newspaper adds: "It is true that the request was rejected by a majority of nine judges, but many of them criticized the humanitarian situation in Gaza."
