The Independent: Netanyahu is losing the war on Gaza

The British newspaper The Independent said that the widespread demonstrations in Israel demanding the dismissal of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu show the extent of internal rejection of the “brutal and futile” war on the Gaza Strip.

It added in her editorial that Netanyahu has become a source of ridicule because he is leading his country on a bloody path that leads to nothing.

The newspaper pointed out that opinion polls in Israel reflect the extent of the protesters’ despair over the course of the war in the Gaza Strip, which has claimed the lives of more than 32,000 Palestinians and injured more than 74,000, huge numbers of whom are women and children. This war also harmed the stability of the region and Israel's security and isolated it internationally.

Prisoners

What is worse - from the protesters’ point of view - is that Israeli prisoners held by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) are still in Gaza and are at risk of being bombed or killed. Some of them actually died, and some were injured by Israeli soldiers' bullets.

The editorial described the situation as unbearable, as Netanyahu appears unable to resolve it. The newspaper even went so far as to say that it is losing this war, which it said “left a horrific famine to which Palestinian civilians were exposed, children were orphaned, hospitals were reduced to charred ruins, spread destitution and deprivation, killed tens of thousands, and created a new generation of Palestinians who feel grievances and are ready to engage.” In the cycle of violence.

According to the British newspaper, Netanyahu has succeeded in alienating its closest allies and friends abroad, so it is fair to say that the incitement against the Israeli government in the West, let alone the Islamic world, is unprecedented, as the editorial put it.

Netanyahu lost

About 6 months after its attack on Israel last year, The Independent says that Hamas can hardly believe how Netanyahu fell into its trap, as he began to act in a way that serves it.

Perhaps the deepest problem - in the newspaper’s opinion - is that Netanyahu does not have a vision for peaceful coexistence with the Palestinians. He rejects the two-state solution, but at the same time, he does not want to occupy the Gaza Strip indefinitely.
