Israel: Minister Sa'ar announces his resignation from the government

Minister in the Israeli Ministerial Council for Political and Security Affairs, Sa'ar, announces the withdrawal of the "Tikva Hadasha" party from the Israeli emergency government in light of its failure to manage the war on the Gaza Strip.

In the first crack in the Israeli emergency government to manage the war on the besieged Gaza Strip, the head of the “Tikva Hadasha” party, Minister Gideon Sa’ar, announced this evening, Monday, his resignation from Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.

This came in a press conference held by Sa'ar, during which he stressed that Israel is at a standstill in Gaza, following the rejection of his request to include him in the war cabinet, and his rejection of Likud's proposal that he be invited to cabinet meetings from time to time.

Sa'ar had announced his party's split from the "National Camp" bloc headed by Benny Gantz, two weeks ago, and last week he held an independent meeting for his party's bloc in the Knesset, consisting of 4 Knesset members.

Sa'ar said, "The center of gravity in the management of the war moved from the (expanded) cabinet, which turned into a kind of parliament, to the war cabinet," and added that important decisions are made in the war cabinet, while the expanded cabinet is content with discussing general issues.

Sa'ar pointed out, "We joined a government that we opposed in the aftermath of the war only in order to influence war affairs. If we cannot do that, we cannot be in the government."
