“Gaza Government”: The death toll among journalists has risen to 117

The government media office in Gaza announced, on Thursday, that the death toll of journalists in the Strip had risen to 117 since last October 7, after documenting the death of two journalists in Israeli raids.

The government office said in a statement: “The number of journalist killed has risen to 117 journalists since the start of the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, after the death of fellow journalists Fouad Abu Khammash and Muhammad Al-Thalathiini.”

Yesterday, Wednesday, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said that Abu Khammash, a volunteer photographer for it, “was killed along with 5 others, including 3 of its members, in an Israeli bombing that targeted an ambulance vehicle in the middle of the Gaza Strip.”

The government office and human rights organizations repeatedly accuse the Israeli army of “deliberately” targeting Palestinian journalists since the beginning of the war, to prevent the reporting of the “crimes” it is committing in Gaza.

The number of journalists who lost their lives as a result of the ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7 exceeded the total number of journalists killed in the world in 2021 and 2022.

According to local and international data, 109 journalists were killed in the world in 2021 and 2022, while the number of journalist killed as a result of the Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7 reached 117.
