World activists call for a global strike for Gaza
Activists and influencers in several countries called for a general strike for the Gaza Strip, which has been suffering from continuous Israeli aggression for more than two months, causing the death and injury of thousands of Palestinian civilians.
A large number of activists and influencers interacted with the hashtag “Strike for Gaza” or strikeforgaza, which swept social media sites, calling for a strike all over the world to denounce the Israeli massacres against the Palestinians in Gaza, and to demand a ceasefire.
Strike date
Palestinian journalist and activist Israa Al-Sheikh explained, in a video message on social media, that the idea of the strike is to refrain from going to work centers, schools, or opening shops in commercial centers.
Palestinian and human rights organizations called for a worldwide strike next Monday, December 11. She said that it is necessary to paralyze the movement of life and the economic wheel in all countries, so that everyone feels directly affected by the aggression on Gaza, and thus pressure is exerted to stop the war.
The Palestinian activist from Gaza, Khaled Safi, wrote: “To all the free people in the world, in light of the continuing Zionist aggression against the Gaza Strip, which has resulted in the death and injury of tens of thousands, and caused the destruction of all aspects of life, we call on every human being in the world to participate in a comprehensive strike on... Monday, December 11, in solidarity with Gaza.
Palestinian organizations
For its part, groups such as the global Palestinian "Samoun" movement, as well as the "Palestinian Movement in America" and the "Palestinian Youth Movement" around the world participated, calling for participation in the strike for all supporters of the Palestinian cause and calling for an end to the war on the Gaza Strip.
Canadian activist Cheryl Benson pointed to the need to adhere to the strike, and said: “We need a global strike. Everyone will leave work until there is a ceasefire,” and she added: “This will affect their pocketbooks.”
The protests, voices opposing the war, and the high number of civilian martyrs did not succeed in dissuading Israel from continuing its aggression against the Gaza Strip, and the United States also used its veto in the Security Council against a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
13 of the 15 member states in the Council voted in favor of the draft resolution, against the United States’ opposition and the United Kingdom’s abstention from voting on the text proposed by the United Arab Emirates.
After more than two months, Israel continues its devastating aggression against the Gaza Strip, committing massacres against civilians. The aggression resulted in the death of 17,487 Palestinians and 46,480 wounded, according to the latest figures published by the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip.
