Chinese Foreign Minister calls for sound China-US relations, and asserts on two states solution
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi (Wednesday) called for sound, steady and sustainable development of China-US relations during a phone conversation with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the latter's request.
Blinken thanked Wang for his visit to the US Embassy in China to offer condolences on the death of former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said Dr. Kissinger has always held that China and the United States, as two major countries, should respect each other, advance together and fulfill their due international responsibilities.
Dr. Kissinger repeatedly stressed that the United States should fully understand the importance of the Taiwan issue to China, Wang added, adding that the diplomatic legacy left by Kissinger deserves to be passed down and developed by future generations.
Wang explained that Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Joe Biden held a successful meeting in San Francisco and reached the future-oriented "San Francisco Vision," which is of outstanding importance.
He stated that the current vital task for the Chinese and American sides is to continue the positive effects of the San Francisco summit, achieve the consensus reached by the presidents of the two countries, and enhance the momentum of stability in relations between the two countries.
Wang said this is in the common interest of China and the United States, and also represents the joint responsibility of these two major countries.
Wang reiterated China's official position on the Taiwan issue, urging the United States not to interfere in China's internal affairs, not to support any forces calling for "Taiwan independence" and not to collude with those forces.
The two sides exchanged views on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and agreed to maintain communication on the situation in the Middle East.
Wang explained that it is necessary to reach a ceasefire between the two sides as soon as possible.
Wang said that at the crossroads between war and peace, major countries in particular should adhere to fairness and justice, adhere to objectivity and neutrality, be sober and rational, make an all-out effort to calm the situation, and work to prevent a larger humanitarian crisis.
Wang added that any solution to the current crisis in Gaza must not deviate from the two-state solution, and any arrangement related to the future of Palestine must reflect the will of the Palestinian people.
He explained that China believes that the essence of the solution is to respect Palestine’s right to establish a state and self-determination, and to embody the principle of “Palestine is owned, led and governed by the Palestinians,” adding that China is ready to work with all parties to achieve this goal.
Blinken informed his Chinese counterpart of the results of his recent visit to the Middle East and the views of the United States regarding developments in the situation, and agreed on the necessity of implementing the two-state solution.
