Israel informs Biden administration of the continuation of the war
Israeli officials informed US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken that the ground attack on the Gaza Strip would continue for several more weeks. This came while an American official confirmed that criticism within the Joe Biden administration of open support for Israeli aggression is increasing.
Anthony Blinken explained that the Biden administration is concerned that the continuation of the ground attack, especially of the size and intensity that was before the truce, will significantly increase international pressure on Israel and the United States.
Israeli Channel 13 quoted sources as saying that the Minister of the Occupation Army, Yoav Gallant, informed Anthony Blinken that the war on the Gaza Strip would continue for several more months, and Blinken replied, “I do not think you have this period.”
The Times of Israel website said that sources familiar with the war council meeting attended by Anthony Blinken reported that Army Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy told Blinken that the occupation army's "operation" would continue for a few more weeks, including the southern Gaza Strip.
According to the website, Blinken took the initiative to ask about the period that Israel needs to end its operation in which very large ground forces are participating, and that he explained that the Biden administration is concerned that the continuation of the ground attack, especially of the size and intensity that was before the truce, will greatly increase international pressure on Israel and the United States.
The Times of Israel sources added that Anthony Blinken requested that additional steps be taken to ensure that the attack in the Gaza Strip does not lead to “serious” harm to civilians, indicating that Benjamin Netanyahu, Yoav Galant and Herzi Halevy informed him that the ground attack in the southern Gaza Strip would lead to less damage to civilians from air attacks.
Does the Biden administration oppose continued aggression?
It appears from the Israeli disclosure that, although the Joe Biden administration continues to claim that it supports the truce, in reality it does not issue a binding invitation to Israel to stop its aggression, and this did not happen either in the last call between Joe Biden and Netanyahu on Wednesday, nor in Anthony Blinken’s fourth visit to the region, which came in conjunction with massive demonstrations in American states to protest the aggression, and criticism within the Biden administration for supporting this attack.
A US official told NBC that the scope of opposition within the Biden administration over the 2023 Gaza war is “exceptional and has not occurred in previous administrations.”
He explained that as soon as pictures emerged of the extent of the destruction in Gaza and the high number of civilian deaths, "we learned that the ammunition used was American-made."
The official revealed that messages from American diplomats in the Middle East warn that “our reputation is being severely damaged by our approach,” indicating that there is a widespread belief among employees in the State Department that American aid to Israel must be subject to restrictions.
Despite what is published as leaks in the American and Israeli media about disagreements between the Biden administration and the Israeli government regarding the continuation of the aggression, observers confirm that Biden and his administration are not serious in pressuring this government to stop the aggression, and that they are only warning of the consequences of the ground attack in the southern Strip, and they are only trying to reduce the number of casualties and the extent of the destruction to reduce the pressure on them, especially with opinion polls confirming the decline in Biden’s popularity and that he will lose the upcoming elections.
