News Paper: The "day after" plan for Gaza must be determined now!
Borko Ozlik in the National Interest proposes a solution, which may be the only one, to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in a sustainable manner.
In a rare display of unity, Middle Eastern leaders unanimously agreed at the Riyadh summit to condemn the Israeli bombing of Gaza and the necessity of a ceasefire, with the exception of pressure from the countries of the axis of resistance, which called on the Gulf states to cut off oil from Israel and take more decisive measures, but Saudi Arabia did not resolve its matter and studied through OPEC+ the possibility of reducing oil production due to significant public pressure from the war on Gaza.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi explicitly expressed Egypt's categorical refusal to open the borders for fear of Egypt's national security. Jordan also fears the influx of Palestinian refugees to its borders.
This means that the final statement of that summit left the door slightly ajar for the possibility of future dealings with Israel, with the possibility of controlling anger in the Arab street. The truth is that the United States treated the current situation in Gaza as a fait accompli, and tried to contain the Israeli-Palestinian conflict instead of finding a solution to the conflict.
Instead of focusing on fragile normalization, the United States should look for clear strategies to reach a sustainable solution to the conflict. Otherwise, the loss of life on both sides will continue for a long time.
Israel did not agree to the solutions proposed by Anthony Blinken; Whether the Arab countries administer Gaza temporarily, hand over responsibility to the Palestinian Authority, or employ international security forces. Israeli intelligence says: This is premature, as if you were asking Winston Churchill on D-Day to set a clear vision for what Europe will be like after the war.
The only sustainable solution is for the international community, perhaps led by the United States and Saudi Arabia, to work to give the Palestinians the right to self-determination and a two-state solution, as a basic principle of international law, and in parallel with the requirements of international peace and security. It seems that the two-state solution has become more urgent than ever.
