These statements came during an official meeting held in the capital Amman with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss the recent escalation.
Safadi stressed that what he described as 'settler terrorism,' the expansion of settlements, and the confiscation of Palestinian lands constitute a blatant violation of international law. He clarified that attempts to change the existing historical and legal status in Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem increase the state of popular and field tension.
The Jordanian minister called for the necessity of international and regional efforts to compel Israel to stop its continuous violations as the occupying power. He pointed out that the continuation of these policies undermines any remaining opportunities for achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region, calling on the United Nations to assume its responsibilities.
For its part, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) revealed shocking figures related to settler attacks in the occupied territories. The office documented more than 1330 incidents of assault since the beginning of 2026, resulting in casualties and severe damage to the property of Palestinian citizens.
On the ground, medical sources reported that six Palestinian citizens, including children, suffered from suffocation due to inhaling tear gas in Bethlehem. These injuries occurred during an incursion carried out by occupation forces into Dheisheh refugee camp, where clashes erupted in the crowded camp's alleys.
In occupied Jerusalem, the Al-Ara'ra Bedouin gathering near the town of Jaba witnessed a violent attack by settlers under the direct protection of the occupation army. The attackers severely beat residents, including women and the elderly, resulting in various injuries among the unarmed citizens.
Local sources stated that the occupation forces imposed a security cordon around the Bedouin gathering and prevented ambulance crews from reaching the injured for a period of time. Despite the restrictions, Red Crescent teams later managed to evacuate two injured people and transport them to the hospital for necessary treatment due to the severe beating.
In a related context, settlers targeted passing Palestinian vehicles near the Jaba town roundabout north of occupied Jerusalem by pelting them with stones. These attacks resulted in the smashing of windows of several cars and caused panic among travelers, in the absence of any intervention by the occupation forces to deter the attackers.
These developments come amidst an escalating pace of demolition of Palestinian homes and structures and the bulldozing of agricultural lands in various governorates of the West Bank. These measures, according to observers, aim to tighten the noose on Palestinians and forcibly displace them in favor of illegal settlement expansion.
