Blinken arrives in Ramallah and meets with President Abbas
US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, arrived on Sunday in Ramallah to meet with President Mahmoud Abbas, in the midst of the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip.
Al-Hurra TV said, “Blinken began his meeting with Abbas in Ramallah in the West Bank,” without further details being available.
This is the US Secretary of State's second tour in the Middle East since October 7, and the trip also includes a visit to Turkey.
On Saturday, Blinken met in the Jordanian capital, Amman, with Arab foreign ministers, who urged Washington to "persuade Israel to agree to a ceasefire."
But Blinken rejected the idea, saying that this “would only allow Hamas to regroup and repeat the attack on Israel,” similar to what happened on October 7th.
Washington proposed a truce to allow humanitarian aid to enter and leave the densely populated Gaza Strip. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected this when he met with Blinken on Friday in Tel Aviv.
