Palestinian Premier calls on the European Union to call for a ceasefire and to provide aid to Gaza
Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh called on the European Union to call for a ceasefire and the occupation’s aggression against the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and to allow the entry of relief, medical and fuel aid and to restore electricity and water to the Strip.
This came during his meeting today, Saturday, in Ramallah, with the European Special Envoy for the Middle East Peace Process, Sven Koopmans.
Shtayyeh reiterated his rejection of the ongoing Israeli attempts to separate the Gaza Strip from the West Bank, the latest of which is deducting the funds allocated to the Gaza Strip from the clearance funds.
He stressed that providing humanitarian and relief support to our people is important, but what is more important is that there be a comprehensive and just political solution to the Palestinian issue, by ending the occupation and embodying the establishment of a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.
Shtayyeh said: “Israel, in addition to its aggression against the Gaza Strip, is carrying out its aggression against the West Bank and making it a killing field, where more than 340 martyrs have risen since the beginning of the year, including more than 140 martyrs since the beginning of the recent events at the hands of the occupation army and its settlers.”
