The United Nations estimated the humanitarian needs in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank at $1.2 billion until the end of 2023, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Operations (OCHA) said in a statement on Friday.

The office explained that “the cost to meet the needs of 2.7 million people, that is, the entire population of the besieged Gaza Strip and 500,000 people in the occupied West Bank, is estimated at 1.2 billion dollars,” adding that the appeal to collect funds launched on October 12 is insufficient. at all.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Operations had previously estimated that $294 million was needed.

Next Monday, the office is scheduled to reveal the details of its updated appeal to donors, which will include details regarding “needs for food, water, health care, shelter, hygiene, and other urgent priorities in the wake of the massive bombing of the Gaza Strip.”

“We urge donors to quickly provide resources to respond,” he said in the statement.

In addition to “adequate funding,” the office stressed the need for “safe and sustainable access to all those in need wherever they are, and an adequate flow of humanitarian supplies and, above all, fuel.”

Since October 7, the Israeli occupation has cut off electricity and water supplies to the Gaza Strip, and prevented the entry of fuel, leading to a humanitarian disaster.

The statement added, "The work of the private sector and non-governmental organizations will also depend on the protection and guarantees provided by the parties to the conflict. Opening the Israeli crossings will be essential."

With the continuation of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, and the bombing that targeted homes, residential buildings, hospitals, schools, and ambulances, the death toll in the Gaza Strip rose to 9,227, including 3,826 children and 2,405 women, according to the Ministry of Health.
