Belgian transport workers' unions refuse to handle arms shipments destined for Israel

Yesterday, Tuesday, Belgian transport workers' unions called on their members to refuse to load or unload shipments of weapons sent to Israel to kill Palestinian civilians.

The trade unions indicated in a joint statement yesterday, Tuesday, that “while genocide operations are taking place in Palestine, workers at various airports in Belgium are noticing the arrival of arms shipments to the conflict zone.”

She added that the participation of workers in loading or unloading these weapons "means supporting regimes that kill innocent people."

Since October 7, Israel has launched intense air strikes every day on the Gaza Strip in response to Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, which was launched on October 7 by the Palestinian resistance led by the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas). ) against Israeli violations in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Operation "Al-Aqsa Flood" resulted in the killing of more than 1,400 Israelis and the capture of about 250, including army officers and soldiers, while the Israeli raids resulted in the martyrdom of more than 8,500 Palestinians, most of them children and women, and the wounding of more than 20,000 others.

A Belgian government spokesman declined to comment on whether there were arms shipments passing through Belgium to Israel.

The unions said in their statement, “We, many unions working in the field of ground logistics, call on our members not to handle any flights carrying military equipment to Palestine/Israel, as there were clear agreements and rules at the beginning of the conflict with Russia and Ukraine.”

The unions also called for an immediate ceasefire, and demanded that the government not allow arms shipments to be sent through Belgian airports. She expressed her solidarity with people struggling to achieve peace.
