Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi discussed with US President Joe Biden the overall security situation in the Middle East, developments in the military escalation in the Gaza Strip, and the importance of preventing the expansion of the circle of conflict into the regional environment.

The official spokesman for the Egyptian presidency, Counselor Ahmed Fahmy, said that President Sisi stressed, during the phone call today, Egypt’s position on the necessity of reaching an immediate humanitarian truce, to enhance the intensive efforts that Egypt is making in cooperation with the United Nations and all international actors, led by the United States, to deliver aid. Humanitarian, medical and relief services to the people of the Gaza Strip.

He said that the two presidents agreed on the importance of intensifying efforts to increase aid in a tangible, effective and sustainable manner, and in quantities that meet the humanitarian needs of the people of the Gaza Strip, who are subjected to enormous suffering.

The call also touched on various dimensions of the current situation in the Gaza Strip, where President Sisi affirmed Egypt’s firm position of rejecting policies of collective punishment and displacement, stressing that Egypt has not and will not allow the displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egyptian territory.

For his part, the US President affirmed the United States’ rejection of the displacement of Palestinians outside their lands, expressing great appreciation for the positive role played by Egypt and the Egyptian leadership in this crisis.

The two presidents also reviewed the latest developments regarding the file of detainees in the Gaza Strip, in addition to discussing prospects for joint cooperation to mobilize international efforts to advance the path of reviving the peace process, with the aim of implementing the two-state solution and establishing the Palestinian state in accordance with the decisions of international legitimacy.
