Arab League Chief: Israel's attack on Guterres aimed at moral and political blackmail
The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said that the attack on the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, by Israel reflects an open attempt at terrorism and moral and political blackmail, stressing that the man expressed, during his speech before the Security Council yesterday, a sound moral and principled position. It is consistent with his duties and the trust he bears at the head of the international organization.
The Secretary-General also confirmed, in a statement prior to his departure from New York to return to Cairo after his participation in the Security Council session devoted to discussing developments in the situation in Gaza, that Guterres’ speech was an expression of international law and international humanitarian law, which represents the foundation of the work of the United Nations institution, and that he fully agrees with What it said was: “At a crucial moment like this, the principles must be clear, especially with regard to protecting civilians and ensuring their livelihood.”
He added that the shameful attack against Guterres aims to silence every voice that speaks out the bright truth that he expressed in his speech, as the Palestinian people have been living in a stifling occupation for 56 years and their land is gradually being devoured by colonies.
The Secretary-General called on everyone to support Guterres in the face of the fascist attack he is being subjected to from Israel, with the aim of silencing his voice and blackmailing him.
