Maariv: Israel plans to establish camps to accommodate settlers from Gaza Envelope
The Israeli newspaper "Maariv" said, Sunday, October 22, 2023, that Tel Aviv is planning to establish a tent city near the city of Eilat on the Red Sea, to accommodate settlers from the displaced residents of the Gaza Envelope, because there are no hotel rooms available to receive them.
The newspaper explained that since the Al-Aqsa Flood operation, “hotels in Israel have received many residents from the south and north, who were evacuated from their homes,” noting that “the city of Eilat alone received more than 60,000 evacuees, and is now preparing to establish a tent city near the entrance to City".
The newspaper continued: “After hotel rooms and guesthouses in the city were full, the mayor, Elie Lanquere, ordered municipal employees to submit to the government a plan for establishing a tent city with an area of about 150 dunams.”
Earlier, the Israeli army announced that about half a million Israelis have been displaced from their areas since the Palestinian resistance launched Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, confirming the evacuation of all residents of the Gaza envelope settlements, which are about 30 kilometers north of the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli spokesman also added that the residents of 20 settlements located near the border with Lebanon were also evacuated, due to clashes between the Israeli army on the one hand and the Lebanese Hezbollah and Palestinian resistance fighters on the other hand.
At the beginning of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, the Palestinian resistance stormed many settlements located within the Gaza Strip, killing and capturing dozens of Israelis, which prompted thousands of residents of those areas to flee towards other areas inside Israel.
The Gaza Strip, which has been besieged since 2006, has been subjected to intense Israeli air strikes that have destroyed entire neighborhoods since October 7, 2023, when the Israeli army launched a military operation called “Iron Swords.”
At dawn on October 7, Hamas and other Palestinian factions in Gaza launched Operation “Al-Aqsa Flood,” in response to “the continuing attacks by Israeli forces and settlers against the Palestinian people, their property, and their sanctities, especially Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem.”
On the other hand, the Israeli army launched Operation Iron Swords and continues to launch intensive raids on many areas in the Gaza Strip, which is inhabited by more than two million Palestinians, who suffer from deteriorating living conditions as a result of an ongoing Israeli siege since 2006.
