Amnesty says: We are investigating what appears to be the use of white phosphorus in Gaza

Amnesty International said that the Israeli military units bombing Gaza are equipped with white phosphorus shells.

Anadolu Agency quoted the organization as saying through its account on the “X” platform today, Friday, “Our Crisis Evidence Laboratory has verified that the Israeli military units striking Gaza are equipped with white phosphorus artillery shells.”

“We are investigating what appears to be the use of white phosphorus in Gaza, including in a raid that took place near a hotel on the beach in the city,” she added.

The organization pointed out that “white phosphorus is an incendiary substance that is often used to create a dense smoke screen or to mark targets. It burns at very high temperatures when exposed to air and can continue to burn inside flesh. It also causes horrific pain and life-altering injuries and cannot be extinguished with water.” .

It added, "Therefore, it is never permissible to use white phosphorus in civilian areas. Gaza is considered one of the most densely populated areas in the world."

"While we continue to closely investigate these deeply disturbing cases, we urge Israel to respect international humanitarian law at all times," she continued.

On Thursday, Human Rights Watch said that it had verified that Israel had used phosphorus bombs in the Gaza Strip and on the Lebanese border.
