Poll: A vast majority holds Netanyahu's government responsible for the security failure
The poll was conducted among Jews only: 84% of the entire public, and 79% of coalition party voters, hold the government responsible for the failure that allowed Hamas to attack last Saturday, and 56% of the public demand Netanyahu and 52% call on Gallant to resign.
A poll published by the Maariv newspaper today, Thursday, showed that 84% of Israelis believe that the Israeli political leadership is responsible for the failure that led to the massive and sudden attack by Hamas fighters on the “Gaza envelope” and towns in southern Israel last Saturday.
According to the poll conducted only among Jews, 79% of coalition party voters in the last elections also said that the political leadership is responsible for this failure.
The public agrees, approximately 94%, that the current Netanyahu government bears responsibility for the situation that led to the collapse of the entire defense system for the towns in southern Israel.
75% said that the government “bears a very great responsibility” or “a great responsibility.” 67% of the public, including 56% of coalition party voters, believed that the “failure of 2023” was greater than the “failure of the Yom Kippur War” in 1973.
56% of the public believes that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should resign from his position at the end of the war, and this percentage was 28% among coalition party voters. Also, 52% believed that Defense Minister Yoav Galant should resign from his position at the end of the war.
It turns out that the more religiosity of the respondents, the higher the confidence in the government. 92% of secularists believe that the political leadership bears responsibility for the failure, compared to 79% of traditional religious, 83% of ultra-Orthodox, and 67% of ultra-Orthodox. This applies to the issue of the government's responsibility for the situation that led to the collapse of the entire defense system for the towns of the south.
59% said that they do not rely at all or rely “only a little” on the government in managing the war, and this percentage rises to 88% among coalition party voters.
92% reported that they were terrified following the Hamas attack last Saturday, and a third of them said they were “very terrified.”
