Gender segregation deepens political and religious division in Israel

Jewish religious groups have resorted to trying to separate men and women during the celebrations of Jewish holidays, especially on the occasion of the so-called “Yom Kippur”, the celebrations of which ended yesterday evening, which prompted many Israelis to reject these attempts, amid mutual accusations of each party trying to impose its ideology on others. .

The city of Tel Aviv witnessed, in more than one open square, such events, which prompted the Israeli police to intervene over the past two days, to resolve differences between religious Israelis who sought to implement this separation, and those who opposed it, which transformed this crisis from a religious to a political one that showed the depth of The division that has been increasing within Israeli society since the government of Benjamin Netanyahu began trying to pass judicial legislation.

Israeli journalists and activists described what happened as unprecedented events, especially since these holidays represent a special sanctity for the Jewish community.

These disputes turned political, especially after their opponents accused some of the leaders of those religious groups that they were implementing the far-right plan to impose religious coercion on the Jewish community within steps imposed by the Netanyahu government.

In a statement, Netanyahu denounced what happened and accused activists from the Israeli left of standing behind it and inciting hatred.

While Israeli opposition leaders expressed their rejection of Netanyahu's accusations, they considered them to be incitement to sedition.
