Jordan demands "Israel" to stop violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque

On Sunday, Jordan called on Israel to stop all practices and “violations” against Al-Aqsa Mosque, hours after it was “stormed” by numbers of Israeli settlers.

The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned in a statement “the extremists’ storming today of the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque/the Holy Mosque and their provocative practices under the protection of the Israeli police, which represents a violation of the historical and legal status quo in the mosque and a violation of the sanctity of the holy places.”

The Ministry's official spokesman, Ambassador Sinan Al-Majali, called on "Israel, as the occupying power, to stop all practices and violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque and respect its sanctity."

Al-Majali warned against the continuation of these "violations" and stressed the need to respect the authority of the Jerusalem Endowments Administration and the affairs of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Endowments, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places, as it has exclusive jurisdiction to manage the affairs of the mosque and regulate entry to it.

The official spokesman reiterated that Al-Aqsa Mosque, with its entire area of 144 dunums, is a pure place of worship for Muslims.

Earlier today, large numbers of settlers entered Al-Aqsa Mosque in successive groups from the direction of the Mughrabi Gate, and performed religious prayers in its courtyards under the protection of Israeli police forces, according to a statement by the Islamic Endowments Department in Jerusalem.

This morning, the Old City of Jerusalem witnessed a state of tension in light of strict measures imposed by the Israeli police coinciding with the celebrations of the Hebrew New Year, according to what official Palestinian sources reported.

Jordan supervises the management of Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city of Jerusalem in accordance with the Jordanian-Israeli peace treaty signed between the two sides in 1994.
