PA Prime Minister calls for immediate action preventing Israel violations against Palestinian detainees
Today, Monday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh called on the Human Rights Council and the International Red Cross to act immediately to stop the policy adopted by the Israeli government against the prisoners, noting that it is important for there to be a popular movement to support their demands.
Shtayyeh said at the beginning of the government session, "The prisoners are not alone. We stand with them and harness our capabilities to protect their rights guaranteed by international law and the Geneva Convention. Our prisoners will not be the weakest link nor a card to increase the balance of extremist parties in the Israeli government in order to pass repressive and racist plans. The policy of isolation And the abuse will make them stronger and stronger.”
The Council of Ministers affirmed its support for all the demands of female and male prisoners and their rights in the occupation prisons, and denounced the restrictions on them and the reduction of visits to them.
Shtayyeh indicated that the Council of Ministers devotes its session today to the issue of prisoners, listening to reports on their conditions, taking the necessary decisions to enhance their steadfastness, and working to release the sick, the elderly, women, and children among them.
The head of the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Prisoners Affairs, Qaddoura Fares, was invited to attend the cabinet session, in order to brief the council on what is happening against the prisoners.
